This will be a VERY shortened version of the speech I give my English class before we study ANIMAL FARM.
Communism can be briefly defined in two sentences: Everyone in a society contributes to the society according to his/her abilities. Everyone in a society receives from the society according to his/her needs.
For this to be possible, the government must control everything, at least in the beginning . . . speech, the economy, the media, EVERYTHING. Eventually, (so Marx's theory goes) everyone will come to accept this hunky-dorry existence, and there will be no need for a government; the people will rule themselves.
The problem with this theory is that it doesn't take into consideration human nature.

In communism the government controls every aspect of the economy and of the lives of the citizens. Citizens are issued a set amount of goods and food in the form of rations, and the military has priority. The former Soviet Union is the best example, Cuba and China would be two more. Communism generally one ruler (dictator), but in some cases a class of elite rule the government (oligarchy).

Communism in the Marxist term is where the people own everything collectively. The leader who are in charge are usually corrupted by the vast wealth and the system breaks down.
China is the only one I know of that does not have a dictator.
Now where did you get the card symbols?

Theoretically, it is supposed to be "dictatorship of the proletariat", meaning that there should be no central government, just a co-op of citizens. But, that never actually works and all communist countries end up with a dictator that is often guilty of crimes against humanity.

When you think of communism, think of central economic planning. The resources belong to the state and the state decides how they will be used. This is opposed to capitalism where the resources are owned privately and their use is decided upon by individual players.
That's off the top of my head. Not bad, huh?
