I don't understand. There are soooo many jobs that people are losing. I know people who have worked at a particular factory for 20 years and all of a sudden the factory up and moves to Mexico,China,Korea..... these people lose their retirement and everything. They have to start all over again. I think it's sh*tty!! What do you all think about this?

If it weren't for socialist ideals and labor unions, this wouldn't be happening. The jobs are going where the labor force will actually put out good work, and they don't demand super high wages. If you owned a business, and your employees DEMANDED that you pay them ridiculous compensation packages for inferior workmanship, and then some guys came in and did a better job for half the pay, who would you go with?

Easy ...cheaper labor, it is all a matter of supply and demand. In my opinion, whether you lie it or not, it is an unavoidable fact of life. Two things could happen:
1) A government can forbid those jobs from migrating to other countries, in which case its industries become less efficient (more expensive) than other countries who do migrate jobs to cheaper labor countries, and in the end, the products produced by your country stop having a demand for them outside of your country, limiting how many of them will be sold, and hence, how many employees are needed to produce them in your own country.
2) A government could let those reduced skilled labors go to another country and focus on educating its population so that they can produce jobs that are not produceable in lower labor cost countries, while still depending on lower labor cost countries and keep producing a larger number of cheaper units and keeping more of their population employed.
Of course, neither solution works by itself and neither has just good or bad things going for it. You need combinations of both of the above to reach the optimum point for your country (the smallest number of reduced skillset jobs lost in your country with teh smalles number of units produced by your country due to higher labor costs in their production).
In the end, no government has it that easy in deciding to which side to go. It is not as simple as a "warm fuzzy" decision of saying let's not fire our workers. You might not fire them today by keeping their jobs here, only to find out that even though you didn't fire them, you simply can not give them jobs down the road because you are too expensive. There are always tradeoffs in these types of decisions.
