My kids have this "new" math. Which I am none to happy about and not a fan of at all, because I don't know what was wrong with the way we learned it, but anyway my kids just had a homework assignment similiar to that last night. Where for instance: They had to describe 12....... it could be:

1 dozen
14 - 2
(you could make 12 slash marks...well you know 4 with 1 going thru the to make 5 etc etc)

10 + 2

Hope that helps.

2+2=4 = two plus two equals four (sum is the same as add, as add is the same as plus)
5/30= 6 = five divided by thirty equals six

8-6= 2 = eight minus six equals two (minus is the same as subtract)

-5 = negative five
2.6= two point six (this number can be called a decimal)

% = percentage
15<300 =fifteen less than three hundred
300>15 = 300 greater than fifteen
300<15 = three hundred less than fifteen
300 is not less than fifteen so it is false; false is an equal sign with a slash in the middle of it.
1/2 = one half this is called a fraction
5 1/4 = five and one fourth
so many numbers and so many ways to make numbers into words :-)

Explain what you feel when you think about the number. Take, for example, the song One:

One is the loneliest number that you'll ever do
Two can be as bad as one, it's the loneliest number since the number one
No is the saddest experience you'll ever know
Yes is the saddest experience you'll ever know

Cause one is the loneliest number that you'll ever know
One is the loneliest number even worse then two
Yeah

It's just no good anymore since you went away
Now I spend my time just making up rhymes of yesterday
One is the loneliest number
One is the loneliest number
One is the loneliest number
Since you went away
Since you went away

(One is the loneliest number since you went away)

It's just no good anymore since you went away
Now I spend my time just making up rhymes of yesterday
One is the loneliest number
One is the loneliest number
One is the loneliest number
Since you went away
Since you went away
