Impossible to summarize and be understood.

As some of you have mentioned, yes, it could be a bit of envy.

But Sweden, Norway, and other countries with equal or higher income per capita are not hated. The issue must be different.

I'm a 59 years old foreigner. I do not live in USA.
I always defended Americans in many discussions, because they have really built a land of freedom and opportunity, and that is important to me.

But is hard to defend them sometimes...

Simply Americans do not know, do not understand the world, and, besides, do not show respect for other people.

They simply believe that was is good for them must be good for the rest of the world.

And let me tell you, it is not right.

I've worked for many years around the world. One of the first things that I learned was that is wrong.

What is wrong for me could be right for others. (I'm talking about cultures, not human rights!)

What I think is best for me is not necessarily the best for others.

I have known Colombians that used to tell me that theirs was the best country in the world while the guerrilla was kidnapping people everyday, Indians that were happy with their parents choosing a wife for them, ("Who knows us more than them and have the experience of having lived more?", was the answer of one of them - impeccable logic, but...not for me), etc.

Americans think that what is best for them is the absolute best, and they try to impose their values to everybody, or at least evaluate others only with their own set of values. Wrong.

Is curious, being USA the land of diversity, the deny that to other nations. They feel that they can judge others. Wrong.

I debated this with very nice, very well educated Americans, many times, without result.

But this does not justifies the problem.

The big problems came with the atrocius Foreign Policy.

Everything that you forbid doing in USA, USA did it abroad.

Grenada, Panama, etc, are only two places where many innocents were killed. Newspapers use euphemisms. When they say "eliminated" or "neutralized" it means for others seeing legs hanging from trees and clhildren heads rolling... explain that to their parents... That leaves scars.

Another issue is thye support to Israel. Another country that I have always defended. But now is doing to others what they do not like others doing to them. Ask Palestinians abot their own Diaspora.

And later came Bush (Jr). Incredible.

He is a fundamentalist like Bin Laden, who really believe that to save people can kill them before.

With the unilaterall invasion to Irak, ignoring the UN and the rest of its allies, USA has given credit to 50 years of negative propaganda.

It will take many years to balance that.

Some of the nicest people I have met are Americans. They do not deserve the hate.

They are jealous b/c on saturdays and sundays im watching football, drinking, beer, spending time with females, enjoying life, i can protest my crappy president, entertainers in my country can make fun of our president without getting their heads lopped off, our children play sports in high tech facilities, i can choose any church, temple, mosque, i want to attend, you can go to college, party, hook up, meet new people, exchange information freely, i can watch porn if i want to and even buy it legally, i can vote politicians out of office, i can write letters to them, i can sit in front of the president's ranch and tell what an Ahole he is, those are some reasons most jerks in other countries cant do, and while they say they hate us, they are lined up by the millions waiting for their visas to indulge in this great country....God Bless America!

because there are polls that show that we are hated by other nations.

as for a cause, US government in the last few years hasn't been concerned about the civilians on the ground. Only thing they are worried about is world leaders. That has led to the deaths of thousands of civilians.

I didnt' know we were. We are the FIRST ones to be called upon when there is a typhoon, hurricane, landslide, earthquake, tsunami, volcano eruption, famine, locust swarm, drought, etc...

AND if we are so "hated", why do we have such a problem with illegal immigration and why does everyone leave their crappy country and move here?

I KNOW the French hate us, but they hate everyone and who cares, THEY ARE FRENCH.

The way they try to impose their ways and thoughts on all other races might have something to do with it.
