The usual name for solidified lava is basalt, whether it cooled by meeting water, or just cooled in the air. However, "pillow lava" is the name for the peculiar shape that it solidifies into when it is erupted directly into water.

Lava turns into rock, of course. The water just serves to cool it faster. It might turn into obsidian, also known as volcanic glass, if the water is really cold. The faster the lava cools, the less crystallization there is, and volcanic glass is poorly crystallized.

Well, let's look at this logically....

What is lava? It's molten (melted) rock. Thus, when it hits water and instantly cools, it turns into lava rock.... that black rock with all of the holes in it....

It turns into rock.Molten rock+water=rock,and steam.
