About a year ago I purchased a Dell Inspiron with a 30gb hard dr . My sons crashed so he used mine and when we got his fixed I changed my PW on admin and the hd. in setup . It changed the admin. but the hard drive Locked me out.. with the repeated invalid password error message. I called dell and they said laptop was red flagged due to non payment by the original purchaser , who ever that is, and will not unlock my hd, or give me the hd master pw. They said there is a way to do this tho but I can never get support from dell because of this. Warranty just ran out anyway. Can someone give me an unlock code for a seagate 30 gb Lapt drive or provide the steps to tell me how to unlock it? They assured me it coulkd be done easily.. Just not by Dells support team. Great. All my work info is on this drive...If there is a tech out there that can help me,.. please post an answer and Ill email or message you with any add. info needed.. I have to get it open and running tonight! THX!

already changed the password back to original on admin. Tried to on hd in setup but dell has some thing programmed in to the hard drive that will lock the hd. if red flagged for any reason.. NO IT is NOT stolen! The hd pw travels with the drive and has nothing to do with windows. just need to unlock the seagate hd!!!

GET THIS!! I calledd dell and told them i needed the unlock code for this hd and they have it but wont give it to me because the original owner did not finish paying for computer and even though they have a credit issue with some stranger and I have paid good money they won't support the drive and I am sol. any suggestions!! HOW TO UNLOCK HD password???

I'm sorry but the only way i can think of to solve this is to format the hard drive and reinstall your OS.

Wipe the drive and reinstall?
Reset the bios?
Not familiar with HD locking on Dell computers. Resetting the bios (ie removing the watch-looking battery from the mobo) would reset the Bios to the original configuration.)

maybe try changing the admin p.w. back to what it originally was.
