First of all, why are the hairs of my violin bow getting dull in some areas (esp the middle and the ends)

Second of all, how do I play three octave scales? Do I actually have to shift that high?!?

I'm not sure what you mean about your violin hairs getting dull; either they're dirty (one common cause is touching the hair with your fingers, which transfers oil) or they could just be old. You might consider getting your bow rehaired if you haven't done it in a while.

To play three octave scales, you do have to shift, because there's no other way to get to the high notes on the E string. Some people shift only when they absolutely have to (i.e. play it all in first position except for the notes about high B), others shift earlier and play a larger fraction of the scale in higher positions.

Rosin is a good place to start for your bow. Its not really good for it if you touch the hairs hopefully you don't.
Three octive scales do go up pretty high but for G I think you only need to shift into 3rd and it only goes up from there.
good luck

Pizzicato ought to be performed with one finger on the string in maximum circumstances. that's terrific while the string is plucked over the fingerboard, many times a splash closer to the bridge than the middle of the fingerboard, and likewise with the thumb touching the backside-appropriate hand nook of the fingerboard for stability. you do not probable "slide" it nevertheless, you pull the string gently with the finger in speedy action lots of the time for a short and speedy yet resonant sound. save enjoying: we pick solid musicians interior the international.
