i install those and if its on the glass the only thing that works is easy off (genaric brands work best)depending on how bad my require several coats iif this happens alot you may not be burning your fire hot enough or are using wet wood or soft wood

Use white vinegar and water solution.

My extended family lives near a cement plant. That's what they use to remove the dust, etc., from the outside of their windows, so it should work well for your soot and smoke. :)

I work with glass everyday.The best thing I find is using glass cleaner and a razor blade.Works great and saves time.

Take a wet newspaper and dip it in (COOL) ashes from the fireplace. Rub. Wipe. You'll be impressed.
