Does SSI count? If so YES! I personally know 3 people who are drawing SSI benefits for disabilities that DO NOT EXIST! It pisses me off more than you know. 2 of them are married and are my aunt and uncle, they inherited over 4 million dollars from my grandpas estate, and are still drawing disability, and are proud to say they are ****** over the government. I've tried reporting them, but when they (SSI) ask my relation and I say niece, the administration cuts me off like I'm just a bitter relative. Well, I got a piece of the pie too...I don't want their money, I just don't think all the income tax I pay should go back to them.

Yes, I have met many people like that, until welfare was changed from of books paper food stamps and and monthly paper checks to the card system they have now, I even knew nitwits who got welfare from 2 or 3 different states! My husband and I grew up in a time when you took pride in working, even if it was digging ditches, today we are disabled due to many health problems, many stemming from holding down 2 jobs each to support our family. We do get SSD, (Social Security Disability), but that comes from the taxes we paid in, we DO NOT get welfare in ANY form and loathe that we are unable to still work. We live simple and low key, but still use our SSD income to make our house payments, drive an ugly but functional car, pay our bills on time and buy our food, all from less then $1,000 a month. The welfare system was set up to help those in times of need and we agree with that, but NEVER as a lifestyle! Yet we still see welfare families driving new cars, living in very expensive homes, (ours is modest) and sitting around getting fat off the Government T** while once very hard working, honest people and some still very hard working, honest people are just getting by. It flat stinks!

I'm sure I have. In one case, we had a Black Muslim teacher. I'm not sure whether or not she was certified, but she was new and she wasn't strict but rather hoped that the students would just do what she asked. (It doesn't work that way.) She would then, in frustration, leave the room and sit outside on the floor and cry within earshot of the class. (That's like an invitation to see which student can make her cry the quickest.) In any event, after a few weeks she announced to everyone on the floor as she stormed out "I'll go back on welfare and stay home and teach my son." Indeed, but I bet she had little idea about what she was actually teaching him. There were probably others, but this stands out most.

Yup. There's a woman who used to live on my street who had been with the father of her children for many many years, but didn't want him living with her because then she wouldn't be able to receive a welfare check. He made enough to support the family, but she wanted the extra money. They were also always on the run from creditors...probably because she drank and smoked away so much of the money. Another woman told me she wasn't working because she doesn't like to do work she doesn't enjoy (???!!!). Uh, a lot of people do work they don't enjoy rather than depend on hard-working people to support them. I think welfare has its purpose, but it is much abused. That makes me angry.

I'm in Alberta, Canada, and my brother has been "retired" since age 18 for the last 8 years on AISH (Alberta Income for the Severely Handicapped), and he says "I get $1000/month to do nothing", and he supplements his income with shoplifting, but because he is schizophrenic, he never gets convicted. He once had a job at Subway, but he says he had to quit "Because the ice machine wasn't working" (sic).
I watched "A Beautiful Mind" and I don't know why my brother can't work at a labouring job. Sitting on his asss made him balloon to 300 pounds and go relatively brain dead, so who are we helping?

Yes....I have a friend who had 3 children under 7 whose husband died in a car accident on his way to work.
She went back to college to get her degree because she couldn't make enough money to pay for childcare and take care of her family.
She was on welfare for 30 months and she's now putting her 2nd child through college.
Everybody isn't looking for a free ride....just a little help.
Why does "welfare" bother people but "warfare" is just fine.

As a matter a fact, I met a family - 4 generations who picked up their birth certificates every year to collect welfare. They have 4 generations of unwed mothers. No marriages. She said "they gave them more money for more kids". I promise on my Mother's life that those were her exact words. I was stunned.

I know people on welfare that "claim" they are unable to work, but somehow are able to do other strenuous things.
The polygamist wives in places like Colorado City, AZ, where Warren Jeffs was from, willing collect welfare money from the government. They call it "Bleeding the Beast" for not allowing them to live their polygamist lifestyle.

Yes, I've workes at a few Daycare centers and many people would choose to live off of welfare because they were too lazy to get off their fat asses and do something.

Yep, not while they were on it but after. They were on it during the 80's, just living off of it. He did not get married to his girlfriend because then she would have lost a lot of the welfare, because she had a lot kids. It was one of my dad's friends. I met tham couple a few years ago and now they hate conservatives and the republican party. Because they chose laziness, my dad is not really friends with them anymore.
