Well, its just, i get a lot of chances to make friends and talk to people, however, I don't know what to say,so there is just silence, 2 people just sitting there saying nothing. I would love to start a conversation, but whenever i try to, i think the topic is kinda lame.

how about a little question / comment about them selves........

When I get to the head of a line for instance and you can see the girl is a bit frazzled I try and find something really nice about her....her nails....her hair etc even if I am not a huge fan of it I say how lovely her nails look.......she replies......then you could take it a bit further...where did you get them done etc................exactly the same about clothes / shoes / hand bag.

Remember people LOVE to talk about them selves LOL LOL

and if they are chatting does it matter if the topic is lame....I know to other people listening to some of my conversations with REALLY good friends would think it was lame...........but we have fun so cares.

start with your interests, pay attention to the other person... what are they wearing what do they have with them. Lets say for example you like music and the person sitting across from you is wearing a shirt with a band's logo on it start there if its a band you like go with that if you have never heard them say so something like i am not familiar with that band or if they have a pet ask to pet it unless your allergic
If nothing else start with the day the weather usually is a lame subject but it will give you an indication of weather they want to talk and maybe let them know that you are a friendly person don't force a conversation it will come

yes, stay away from weather (oscar wilde says discussions about weather are the last refuge of the unimaginative).

try to not say anything trite, that later you will say to yourself "why did i say that?"

ask them something you geniunely want to know, or tell them a funny (humor always works) or interesting story about yourself (but not bragging.), or something you saw on tv or read or whatever interested you. if that person is interested also, CLICK! if not, move on.

also self deprecating humor (where you kind of make fun of yourself ) is a great ice breaker.

good luck & relax.

Small talk is supposed to be about what interests you. Don't worry about whether it's "lame" or not. Talk about your interests and let things move naturally!

You can start by introducing yourself : "Hey, what's up, I'm SuMbOi.
Wanna dance, or are you just gonna sit there all nite?"
