In a painting or an image what is the correct name for the technique where the artist mutes things that are far away. Like the colors won't be as vivid. What is the correct term for that? For example Perspective makes things further away look smaller. But what's the term for the technique i mentioned above. Thanks!

Aerial perspective is the technique used for showing depth by fading out objects in the background to a blue-grey color. The term comes from the cause of the visual phenomena where the atmosphere between the viwer and the distant object dulls the object's color.
