I mentally itemize the things that are causing me stress, acknowledge them, and push them away. Then I start working on something that will address these issues, and if I can, put on relaxing piano music or Haydn while I work. I find that procrastinating by escaping into books or music instead of working just increases the stress/nautiousness, but its good to stand up and stretch, or take a quick pace, hum, or do something else short (10-45seconds) and then re-approach my work from a fresh viewpoint. It's like clensing your mental palate.

If the stress is something that can not be worked at now, just try to hold it in your mind and release it; like blowing the seeds off a dandelion, feel it disipate from your mind. Take a few deep breaths and let it leave you when you exhale. It may also help to think of something that makes you happy, for example: laying back in a hammock in dappled sunlight with a good book and a fluffy kitten. Make the image sharp-- imagine the pine scent of bruise conifer needles, fell the soft breeze of the wind and warm touch of the sun on your skin, feel the swaying motion of the hammock and the musty smell of old book pages and cat dander. Only make this a personalized image from your life, one that you are familiar with and have fond memories of. You need to trigger a past memory to get the full effect, something your brain is used to linking to and has positive emotions associated with.

Take a time out from whatever is causing stress. For me at work I put my headphones on and listen to my fav songs on my MP3. At home I got to my room and veg out or go for a drive. Gives me time to focus and calm down.
