Mainstream music seems to be getting worse. Is it because it is a down time for music, or because I'm getting older (mid 20s now), and I'm not hip?

Pop music hit its high water mark somewhere around 1985.

It's been all downhill since then.

Yes! I am also in the same age group and have been thinking the same thing. There was a time when I could watch Daisy Fuentes do the MTV video countdown on the weekends and know and want to know almost every song on the list. Now, with the exception of the occassional entertaining music video (OK Go is great) I can't stand to listen to about 90% of the crap they are playing.

not really ... whats happened is that music has expanded. In the 1980's bands like guns and roses would pale in comparison to the antics of some of todays bands. There is just so much more variety and then there is all the new age stuff - celtic - spiritual - folk - etc... I really like a couple bands out today such as ' Theory of a Deadman ' they are a Canadian Band and their lyrics and sound are great. Hey any ' Theory of a Deadman fans let me know in your answer. Greenday is great too - excellent and talented musicians that prove to us all that music is not getting worse -- they have real talent.

I truthfully accept as true with you. i like listening to the Beatles (frequently later track, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, crimson Floyd, any variety of track thats isn't in any way linked with pop, hip hop, extra contemporary rock, or maximum of all, rap. track now seems to be transforming into, "we could see who can write the worst songs and nevertheless sell hundreds of thousands of albums!!!" I by no potential hear to the radio, I dont watch VH1 or MTV (at my buddy's properties, i dont have cable) considering you hear the comparable crappy songs repeatedly, till you decide directly to wreck the television. the reason I hate rap the main (there have been some sturdy rap songs i'd desire to admit, yet those have been the 1st rap songs, no longer this new crap) by using fact they sing approximately how they did drugs and hit their lady buddy, then shot some human beings by using fact they theory they have been gruesome, then whine approximately racism. It bothers the crap out of me! The Beatles, whether wrote songs that for the main area have been approximately no longer something, yet that doesn't count number, on account that they had expertise, and knew a thank you to jot down songs so properly, they did no longer would desire to make sense. Take Norwegian timber, its approximately no longer something and makes use of a sitar (dont ask in case you dont be attentive to). It substitute into nevertheless an impressive track. i'd a lot particularly hear to Eleanor Rigby for a week as we communicate than any contemporary track as quickly as. And no, Eleanor Rigby isn't some singer you have by no potential heard of, it extremely is a track that has in basic terms a string choir. No bass, guitar, or drums. maximum track seems to be one guitar, one bass, one drummer, and a singer. i think of it extremely is exciting whilst there's a strings area (violins, cellos, violas, for the fewer musically susceptible human beings), or they have a brass band. Its a lot extra exciting, because it extremely is different. the admired track I do locate exciting is maximum generally out of the U. S., particularly coming from Britain. as an occasion Badly Drawn Boy. it extremely is option Rock, and is exciting. He does use different intruments in some songs, consisting of strings, or timber winds (saxophones in Bewliderbeast). One track starts with a cello and french horn solo, which are available in different cases during the track. it extremely is an impressive track.

I don't necessarily think it's music that is getting worse. I think singers are getting worse. Now-a-days it seems you don't even have to have talent or a beautiful voice to come out with a CD (Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Hilary Duff, Ashley Simpson, Cassie, need I go on).

Much of the crap released today is mistakenly labeled music. It's computer generated fluff, accented with lame over produced vocal tracks, mixed by chimpanzee brained coke freaks.

It all depends on the person listening. I myself am not fond of a lot of the new music. To me, it is not music at all. But that is mainly rap that I am referring to.
