They call them that because the are the name brand. Most people don't call all the different models of Nike's by their style name. The only one people call by the model name is the Air Jordan, and that's because they have a big silhouette of Michael Jordan on them. All the rest get called Nikes because they have the Nike swoosh. I agree with you, but people call things by the easiest possible name.
