sarahybethy is right...you could argue that public schools have much higher standards than private schools. Public schools require their teachers to be certified, and they have to follow state curriculum guidelines. Private schools do not. In fact, it is very common for some private schools to hire young, inexperienced teachers straight out of college with zero classroom experience. Class work and grading at some private schools could be very loose as well.
Note to Koffee: You are one of the lucky ones. My answer comes from my experience working at an expensive girls boarding school...I know I got a better education myself at a public high school!

Well I can tell you from experience that private schools are no better then public. You deal with the same things both places. Explain to him that the only reason that private school kids have better grades is because they don't have to follow state curriculum requirements. Classes are so much easier in private. I had all A's in school then bombed my Sat's because we weren't being taught what all the other kids were being taught. It's a major issue that people don't seem to look at while picking a school!!

As long as you are getting A's I see no reason to go to a private school where you will be beaten into submission by catholic nuns. I think he wants the discipline for you rather than the education. Or maybe he wants the religious teaching added to your education. You are right you won't see your friends much, but you will make new friends. Maybe he is trying to get you away from friends that may be having a bad influence on you.

Whoa! Some of these answers are killing me. I went to both Private and Public high school. The difference was incredible. In public school, little was taught because of all the disruptions from students who were there because the law mandated it. They didn't want to learn and tried to make everyone miserable. In the private school, students were there to learn. Their parents were successful enough to pay the tuition and the kids were motivated to achieve the same success.
The majority of students who graduate from private high schools will go on to attain a college degree. You can't say that of public school.

i go to a private school and it is the best school ever
you will be more challenged there because it seems like your school right now is too easy for you. I get all a's and it is really hard but it makes school more interesting and difficult. making friends is the hardest thing to do, and i know that. but what everyone says that you will make friends in no time is true. also if you go to a private school you will be so well prepared for the future like jobs and college that you will be so happy that you switched. if you stay at your old school, no offense to that school, you will regret it in the future.

Nothing. It's better for you and you probably won't be able to change his mind anyway. You'll make new friends anyway. Do you really think all those kids are all prudes?
Lola: She won't be "beaten into submission" by Catholic nuns. That's such a myth and I can't believe people actually buy into that crap still.
