we as a middle school i would have to say that its just fun to go out wiht people even if u dont go any where. i mean take this girl for example if a boy ask u out then it basically means he wants go be with u. and that he likes u and wants u to be is gf. so if somebody ask u out it basically means they r interested in u and really like u and wants to get to know u and wants everybody to know that.

I don't think there is a point.

I am in college now, but I was not allowed to date until I was sixteen and I am glad. Don't worry about dating (in any sense of the word) in middle school. You're right to think it doesn't make sense. Besides not having anywhere to go, its much more fun doing things with your group of friends then trying to impress boys/girls during that age. High School is a good time to start to date. Definitely don't date just because others do. But that is what has worked for me. Starting to date too young put unneeded pressure on some of my friends who could date before 16 and I am glad I didn't have to deal with it. School is hard enough.

Ok I'm in middle school (last year) so maybe I can give you an answer to your question. I agree with you, it is pointless to say you're going out, because you really can't go anywhere, but that's the term used, so we can't really do anything about it. Going on a date for us is considered going to a movie or something, not anything big of course. My boyfriend and I haven't even done that, we just see each other out of school, and we've been "going out" for seven months. I don't know, you said you're in middle school right? Ask you're friends, or even a guy friend of yours. That conversation could really go somewhere.☺

Well, maybe the point is not the place one goes but the talk that goes on. It's amazing how much freer one can feel expressing oneself in a setting totally away from parents' and peers' earshot. I guess they help build experience for when the dates are more "real." That was how I felt about them at the time.

It's all part of the corporate marketing scheme. The more you date, the more crap you buy for gifts, and the more enslaved you become to the dating lifestyle. "Get 'em while they are young and establish buying habits" is the mantra of marketing.

Live your life. Don't waste time dating until he (or she) owns a house. I think that is a good rule of thumb from a friend's wise old momma.

Maybe it's just to hang out and be around each other. Dating doesn't have to be going to some dark place and making out. It can be just spending time with one another.

It is just a term for the boyfriend/girlfriend thing. It is harmless and just makes them feel better by saying they are "going out".

There is no need in Jr. High to date. No child should be allowed to date until they are 16.
