You need a hole saw attachment for your drill. You can get one and a template kit for mounting doorknobs at Home Depot for about $15.00 and it is well worth the expense. They usually include the hole saw and will attach to the door so you can drill the two holes required without fear of being out of level

Also make sure the door isn't hollow where you wnt to put the know because you need support for the mechanism to work properly

I would go to your local hardware store or, lumber yard, and get yourself a door lock template.

They sell them, and then you get a hole saw, and another drill bit for the side, (they will have the ones you need).

Locate where you want the "striker" to be, and mortise a strike plate, into the outter part of the door, (where the bolt will slide home). You can do this with a sharp wood chisel and a hammer.

Put your template on the door, make the holes and drill all the places, that it tells you to.

Its actually very simple if you have the template to show you "where" to drill, and what to use.

I wish you well..
