They should but it will be close. The Twins are playing better then both the Tigers or the White Sox right now.

I hope so. If Leyland can get the team believing in itself again, maybe. It hurts to be in the same division as the Twins and White Sox obviously. They are still 3 games ahead of the White Sox, so maybe they can at least hold on for the wild card. The problem with being the wild card is they would have to play the team with the best overall record in the AL in the first series (NY or Minnesota if the Twins pass the Tigers to win the division). It would be much better for the Tigers to find a way to win 7 out of the next 10 if they want to make the playoffs. Everyone is looking at the series coming up at Chicago beginning 9-18. If Detroit is still alive after that series, they might just have a chance to make the playoffs.

Clearly you're not a REAL Tiger fan.
Ye of little faith, I think you can jump off the bandwagon now.
ANY REAL TIGER fan would be totally excited about the season they've had so far.
When was the last time they finished above .500?
Where were you in '03? probably no where near Comerica Park.
Dude, relax. The Tigs are in a slump now, and will pull out of it in time for the playoffs.
When you do jump off the bandwagon, you will not be allowed back on.
Either you're a Tiger fan, or not.

when they lost placido polanco they lost a great fielder and a very important bat. he got on base a lot and would score runs. they have no true homerun hitters other than maglio ordonez. pudge has lost some of his power with the bat as well as casey. inge is swinging the bat poorlt and carlos guillen has off and on hamstring problems. they might hold on for the playoffs but i think the twins will win the division because of their superior pitching. by the way francisco liriano is coming off the DL and suppose to pitch tomorrow night. if he is healthy and mauer, cuddeyer, hunter, and morneau keeping swinging the bat then they will tough to beat. also, joe nathan is a great closer and they have a strong bullpen.
sadly, i knew the tigers would be in trouble when polanco went down. perez is a good fielder but he runs hot and cold with the bat. polanco batted 2nd while perez bats 8th or 9th (big difference).
i hope the tigers make it. don't give up on them! they have a good pitching staff, a quality closer, and some veteran bats. they might hold on!

If they can win one more game than the Tins they'll be fine but I think the Twins might edge them out if they keep this pace especially if Liriano pitches well.

It'll be close, but they have a chance...
But they have no chance if they have to face the Yankees in post season...
