There's some depressing stuff around here. You probably should have put this in somewhere more psychologically-oriented than Words and Wordplay.
I was last devastated when somebody close to me died suddenly. I cried for a week straight, every waking minute and I'd wake up to cry over and over when I went to bed at night. I couldn't work, couldn't eat, couldn't drive...it was horrible. For weeks and weeks, practically everything reminded me that he was dead and I'd start crying again--the only way I could find to avoid crying was during the times when I wasn't really thinking of anything in particular, blank mind. I was totally heartbroken. I feel better now, a couple of years later, but it was hard to pick up the pieces.

10 years ago when my Mum and Dad both died of cancer within 6 months of each other. I think most people are truly devasted after having experienced the death of a close friend or family member. I suppose you can be gutted about your car conking out or p--sed off that your cat got run over but not devastated. Devastation is to be utterly devastated. Inconsolable...

I think that losing someone you love is the only real cause of devastation. The rest of the time we are just upset, afraid, angry or in shock, but it's a great word and I think we use it when we want to express some kind of passion in our feelings

Wow. I think there are too many times to count. I think the most recent has to be these past three months. I work full time at a law office. My husband works equally as long as we are starting our own business. We spend all our free time and money working on the business so much so that we are barely making ends meet. Recently we "sucked it up" and asked our families for money (which is VERY) hard for us, but we know that they have it to spare. Both of our families refused to help us for whatever reason. We have had to stop paying our bills and stop buying food as we could not afford it. Let me tell you, going for days without eating and then having PB and J's for dinner when you can afford to buy the bread is pretty fricking devastating.

You're right. I'm sick of yobbo footballers using it because they lost a game. The last time I was devastated was the day my wife and I were told she had cancer in 1997.

i was devastated just now when i realised that its the two free points you get for a reply that is leading to so many irrelevant posts...including this one.
dya think they should abolish that so questions like yours get only decent replies instead of shitty ones like this.
by the way i could do with an extra ten points soon from somewhere.....where should i look ....!
