see their illiteracy and social incompetence as being part of the breakdown of social values or are they just 'victims' of western culture?

America and UK are at the heart of cultural breakdown in the west.. the question does remain viable. An established learning system was demolished to be replaced with nothing. that was foolish.

I think it's just the way that language is evolving. We don't speak or write the way we did 100 years ago, and neither do we speak liek Shakespeare any longer- things have to change- including language.

Illiteracy is the fault of the government not having a good enough educational syllabus- all this learning the alphabetic phoenetically is ridiculous!

Social Incompetance frustrates me endlessly, but it isn't just the under 25's- I actually find it to be the 30-45 age gap in Britain, it is a "you're to blame" society, where no matter what has happened, it is always someone elses fault and we attack them for it.

I don't think any of this is exclusively America and Britain though...that seems a rather sweeping generalisation.
