YAY A QUESTION I CAN ANSWER
short course pool [average public swimming pool] = 25m
long course = 50 m
BUT some olympic ones are 100m

In one length of an Olympic pool 50 meters, most others are 25 meters. Don't confuse lengths with laps which are 2 lengths

Why don't you just ask the one of the lifeguards at your local pool? They have nothing to do but stand around all day fighting the urge to nod off from boredom, hoping for one of those rare moments of excitement when they can blow their whistle at someone, or some attractive young lady (or gentlemen, depending on gender and orientation) will come and chat them up.

Olympic pool is 50m, others are usually 25m, in the states, most pools are yards, so my high school pool is 25 yards
