I lost my smell and taste just over 5 years ago due to a head injury, i had a fractured skull. I would like to hear from people who have been through the same.

You brain has different places that simulates the different senses in the body. you lose senses because those part of the brain can be dammaged, parttially or totally dammaged.

my sense of smell was weakened and my taste is certainly changed. some foods I used to just hate I eat... because I think they do not taste as yuk as they used to. My head injury desensitized some things like my hearing is effected at times too. Sensitive to extreme light, flashing lights.

I'm not sure if that helps but I have heard of people totally loosing one or the other. head injuries are very mysterious.

I lost them about 5 years ago too, but due to allegies that suddenly developed. It sucks not being able to taste, but I really don't mind the smell bit- it is actually kind of a blessing.

It is kind of wierd, not being to smell, because you cannot taste, so for me it is hard to cook for the family. I also worry so much about gas leaks in the stove or heater, I will never smell them!
My Dog is trained now"thank God"
Then there is my clothes, breath, child infested car, dog/child infested home!
I worry, that I have missed a stink!
