Only if it can be scientifically proven with double blind trials. Otherwise, it is just some guy saying he thinks it works. There have been MANY herbal remedies that have not only been debunked with science, but in some cases have been shown to be dangerous (St Johns Wart). Many of our medicines are based on herbal medicines that are difficult to find, so its not completely out of line to think that some exist, but they should be proven to work first.

The businesspeople behind the herbal "medicine " industry are a bunch of charlatans posing as moralists . The fact of the matter is that they prey on peoples fears. The people who either distrust or don't understand modern medicine or science are their victims.
The modern drug industry is a highly regulated industry that must meet very exacting scientific standards before they can bring a drug to market. The cost of research and developmment incurred by the drug companys is enormous. The amount of time needed to bring a drug to market is enormous .The posssibilty of having lawsuits brought against with the company with the resulting loss of millions of dollars both in assets and future revenues is also enormous.
The herbal people don't have these problems, the herbal people don't incur these costs and the herbal don't run the risk of lawsuits resulting in finacial ruin. They are in effect reaping the rewards without incuring the risks-noble of them.
Why ? Because the herbal busineespeople sell dietary suppliments not drugs. If an individual chooses believe that that dietary suppliment will do the same thing as a drug, well it is not the responsibilty of the herbalpeople to disagree with him.
If the herbalbusiness people really believed that their product was as good if not better than the what the big drug companys put out they would ask the FDA to judge them both by the same standards.Of course that would put them out of the herbal suppliment business.
At least the big drug companies are honest and out front about who they are- you can respect them for that.
The herbal food suppliment industry is a multi-billion dollar industry posing as "just folks"

Against because then the government will require all herbal medicine to be prescribed so that the drug companies can patent and steal natural substances from the people who can't afford their 'system'.
For it only in the sense that people should realize that most conventional medicine starts out by extracting some natural substance and then replicating it as near as they can in a laboratory. People should also be educated on the rates at which doctors make people worse than they would have been if no treatment was applied.
We don't have a Health Care system, we have a Sick Care system. Hospitals and surgeons and drug companies make money from sick people, not healthy ones. There is little incentive to make people eat better or to remove dangerous substances from our environment except a little incentive by insurance companies who are realizing they need a minimum number of healthy people TO WORK AND PAY THE PREMIUMS.

I'm for! I think that if we use what is natural first then if that does not work bring on the man made. We might all be better off if we did.
