Punk is believed to have occurred at the same time as the class riots in London, England. It was discovered in 1977 via the God Save the Queen record that the Sex Pistols made.

punk has been around since long before the 70's chuck berry jerrylee lewis and other rockers from the 50's are punk in the 60's it continued with mc5, the stooges, the seeds, the sonics etc.... punk wasn't called punk until the lates 70's some genuis at a newspaper called it punk and it stuck it was also called new wave

MC5 out of Minnessota are considered the pioneers of American punk. I think they were around in 1969 or so.
You guys are all idiots if you think the Sex Pistols was the first punk band. Do some freaking research!

hey. punk music hit the scene around the mid 70s. the big bands in the beginning were the sex pistols, ramones, and the clash. true punk is dead and the only thing left is MTV punk (pop-punk like Fallout Boy)
