Before I was pregnant I always slept on my stomach. Now that I'm pregnant (6 1/2 months) it is uncomfortable for me to sleep on my stomach (for obvious reasons) but I always seem to wake up in the middle of the night laying on my stomach!

How can I break this habit?
Is it going to hurt my baby?

You will break the habit soon, trust me! You are not hurting the baby, because you are probably not on your stomach for very long. You are waking up because it is uncomfortable. Try sleeping with a pillow between your knees, which will help back pain, too. Also, one of those big pregnancy body pillows might help you find a comfy position besides your stomach. I had the same problem-- after i gave birth, I couldn't wait to sleep on my stomach again! Don't worry too much about hurting the baby- you'll wake up before that happens. Good luck and congrats!

It's not going to hurt your baby. You should sleep whatever position makes you most comfortable. Enjoy sleeping on your stomach now if it doesn't bother you, because in about a month and a half it will!

I slept on my stomach until recently. I'm 8 months now and it's just too uncomfortable. I would advise you to invest in a body pillow, it really does help when you're sleeping on your side.

I'm in my third pregnancy and eventually it just gets annoying to sleep on your belly. I have trouble in the beginning with that too. The only good position is to sleep on your left side or so I have been told. I usually tuck pillows but my sister used a body pillow to support her stomach for both her pregnancies and I pretty much do the same right now. They also make what they call a pregnancy pillow which is basically the same thing but design for a pregnant woman to support their belly while they sleep. Maybe you should check that out. Good luck!!

Everyone will probably tell you the same thing. I think it is a woman thing to like sleeping on your stomach. Eventually you do get use to the fact that you can't. I am 30 weeks and I sleep as close to my stomach as I can by putting a pillow under my knee so to raise my tummy up a little. I find this helps me. You could always get one of those full body length pillows, I here they are good to lay with. GOOD LUCK

Baby,
Why do you have to break this habit? I've had 3 pregnancy's. Survived only 2, but i slept on my stomach all the time. Maybe slanted to the side a little but completely on my stomach. It feels good to me. Then you'll soon feel the baby move to get comfortable. that's it. Baby you're fine. If you don't like it's ok though then try to learn to lay on your side because laying on your back is so uncomfortable.

I don't think it will do the baby any good though. Soon you won't be able to get on your stomach but your just going to have to stop going on your stomach. Pillows - loads of, to try to break the habit or just so they wake you up enough to realise that you shouldn't go on your stomach. Happy sleeping.

I sleep on my stomach too, and I would do the same as you are describing...waking up in the middle of the night on my stomach. As you progress in your pregnancy, you will not be able to sleep on your stomach! It just won't be possible. My advice to you is to get a body pillow and lay on your side. Soon you won't have a choice!

Good luck!

You won't hurt the baby. Just think, in a few more weeks, you won't have to worry about it because you will just roll off of your tummy if you try and sleep on it.

If you want to train yourself to sleep on your side, get a pregnancy pillow. It curves around you and keeps you from rolling over.

it will not be confortable soon. I promice. I am a stomach sleeper. You will have to get a body pillow and put it between your legs and sleep on your left side. it can eventually hurt the baby, to an extent, because blood flow is not right.

if you sleep with a firm pillow between your legs you will find it harder to roll in your sleep and should get a restful nights sleep on your side "says my wife" a mother of 5 successful births.

It should not hurt your baby but your baby will let you know if it is uncomfortable.
