a guard is trained to be quick and fast, but a center is the one who has to travel back and forth between the 2 paints and under the baskets to play offense and defense, which is longer than back and forth between the 3 point lines in which a guard travels to.

Guards have to run more than centers. They also have to be more active on defense as they're the 1st players that the offense will meet when they have the ball. That's why it's important not to have slackers/ballhogs as guards. Those types blow it on defense and place more pressure on the bigs on both sides of the ball.

A guard definately runs more, especially the point guard because he has to always know how to run the play. Guards are constantly running to get open shots on offense, while the centers from both teams generally stay down in the paint, with the exception of Ben Wallace's high screen.

It depends on the pace of the game. I think in a Suns-Mavs game, the centers get more. But in a Pistons game, the guards get a lot more. Like people have said, guards run more in a 1/2 court game basically because centers hang around the hoop.

Guards generally run more, because once in the half court setting, big men typically move within a smaller space. Guards on the other hand have to cover more court.

That being said, I don't think you can say that guards necessarily work harder, because bigs have to bang more. It's a different kind of physical endurance, but not necessarily easier in the least.

But in the day, the center ran it more, but in this day and age, the point guard definitely runs the show.
