G'day NipperSkaggs,
Thanks for your question.
Twist in My Sobriety was a worldwide hit for Tanita Tikaram in 1988. It came from her Ancient Heart album. It reached #22 in the UK and was also a hit on the Australian and US modern rock charts. Good Tradition from the Ancient Heart album reached Top 10 in the UK.
"Twist in My Sobriety" was accompanied by an award-winning black and white video, set in rural South America, and directed by Gerard de Thame.
Three follow-up albums received mixed reviews and declining sales. Her co-producers and collaborators during this period were Rod Argent and Peter Van Hooke. In 2005 Tanita released her latest album, Sentimental. The album, which features two collaborations with Nick Lowe, was warmly received by critics and fans, but was released only on the French label Naïve Records.
Tanita Tikaram was the daughter or Malaysian and Fijian parents and started writing songs as a teenager.
The first line of the song, "All God's children need travelling shoes", is a reference to a book by Maya Angelou. Liza Minelli covered it in 1989

You can't. You made a choice. Nothing you find is going to feel as "Twisty" as the drug you gave up.
