i think what people are missing in his death are three things:
One: he was full on and hands on with the animals and reptiles he handled but he also broke down barriers and showed people that these creatures, for so long objects of hate (and he would loathe the current backlash against the beautiful stingrays in Oz) could be beautiful and loved despite their reputation.
Two: that this world is crapping itself up on a daily basis, we need to respect the environment and protect it and look after the world as (but you idiots out there, go ahead and use the F word and the C word and whatever other word you want to in order to disrespect others opinions - freedom of speech - alien concept to you - ask an adult to explain it to you) its the only one we've got
three: Steve wasnt a f*cking saint as someone posted, no he was an ocker trying to educate idiots like you - he had a wife and a family who loved what he stood for as much as he did - he was so loved he was considered worthy of a state funeral - where people in their thousands would come to pay tribute. Why dont you ask youselves - who's the bigger hero - someone who actually did something to save the planet or someone who's glib reply is to use the f* word?

Now, first off, let me say I'm sorry the guy is dead - it was a horrible thing that should not happen to anyone.
But I contest the assertion that he was a great man doing great things.
I agree with Germaine Greer. He was not a naturalist or conservationist in any meaningful sense of the word. He was a showman, a self-publicist that used animals as stooges in macho stunts to enhance his reputation. As such, I would not like to see him replaced.

steve irwin was a great man and an educator, theres not many who can feel his foot steps, steve had compassion in is work. I was looking at a picture earlier today as steve was with a croc he had no fear in his eyes as most would have, his daughter may one day fill his shoes she had the same compassion as her father, jeff corwin is good person aswell, and an educator, he would be my favorite in showing the world lives of animals

easily Steve Irwin develop into an atheist. i guess he might want to be happy with his daughter in spite of the undeniable fact that with each and every of the activities surrounding baby celebrities.. perhaps slightly in touch?? i'm positive they are very careful which includes her on the grounds that she is round unique animals. this can look undesirable, yet i fairly desire she under no circumstances receives harm. Even experts who comprehend the nature of untamed animals can not anticipate their habit... Take Steve Irwins death for instance.

A quick poll from people I know thought a guy who plays with an animals instinct, just to the point where it fall shorts of attacking is not really a person to admire. But as a charachter I thought he was entertaining, no doubt.

He was a just a normal guy and i think he would be upset at how people are elevating him to god status. He just wanted to be treated normally. Leave the poor guy alone.
There are other people out there who do as much for the environment and love the animals as much as he did. He just had a big personality.
Austin Stevens for one.

No one can take his place. He was great at what he did and his legacy will live on. I'm sure the Crocodile Hunter show will stay on the air and we can all still enjoy Steve.

I don't know but his wife should definitely say something about all those idiots killing stingrays. She's in the best position to tell them to stop. They might actually listen to her unlike with everyone else. Those idiots are destroying what he stood for.

How can anyone replace Steve Irwin - when he died the mould was broken. We will have to wait for someone who watched his programmes and loves animals as he did to follow in his footsteps.
