My roommate thinks the average jogging speed is about 9-10 km per hour, however from my observation I would say on average people run at around 12 km/h.
I don't have one of those devices to measure speed (yet), so decided to ask you guys :)

looking at the treadmills in my gym, most people seem to jog around 8-11kmph. Personally, I think anything faster than about 12kph counts as running.
Elite marathon runners average around 20kph for the marathon! Kinda puts it in perspective.

Average jogging speed depends entirely upon the person doing the jogging.

An unfit 16 stone man is not going to jog as fast as a fit 10 stoner.

It is the same for women. A fit woman would jog faster than an unfit 16 stone man.

Jogging is all about finding your own comfort zone. If yours is 12k/hr then great. If your roommate is happy at 9-10k/hr, then great.

Why argue, life is too short.

depending on endurance and pace, I would say 7-10 kms hour

When I ran 10K marathons, I averaged 30-40 minute times
and I would say I was in the top 25% of the field, the fastest time
being 20 minutes.

In a shorter run, I imagine most people can run at 12kms or faster.

The terrain (trails vs roads) and the elevation change (hills vs flat) can have a major impact on speed. I tend to run about 2 mph slower on hilly trails than on roads which are flatter and non-technical. Mountain trails can slow my rate to about 30 mins or more per mile when steep uphill.

I jog at 7-8km/h. To be fair, I'm new to it and I'm quite short so I don't have a very long stride.
