what i meant to say was i have 3 little guys in a ten gallon aquarium they get light through my window

YES,
You must have a light for heat and the bright light, window light is not good enough.
Have the light on while the sun is out during the day and then turn it off as dusk approahes.
Hermit Crabs are wild tropical terrestrial crustaceans and must have warmth and humidty but also must have light bright that mimics their habitat in the wild.
Their tank must have temps between 76-82 degrees F at all times and humidity levels of 75%-85% relative at all times.
You must provide at least aquarium hood lights for the hermit crabs.. they must have this light for several reasons...
To stay on a proper molting and seasonal cycle. To properly metobolize thier food so they can stay healthy and happy.
Owners are not told anything when they buy hermit crabs, I have yet to find a pet store that knows anything accurate about them.. and vets do not touch them.

We used to have hermit crabs... we were never told to leave a light on for them. Only to keep them in a warm place. They too only got light from the window.

No, because they are normal animals and they are used to night time in the wild. That's the straight answer.
The stupid answer is that if you leave the light on all the time the poor little guys won't get any sleep and their eyes will be hanging out on stalks ;)

No you dont have to leave the light on, where you have it is really good for them cos its natural for them, they might get confused if you had light 24/7.
You might find that they are most active at night as instinct tells them.
Just keep doing what your doing, your doing it right.

I dont know what light will do to the crabs but wash everthing youve sat or layed on in your house, including all your clothes. You probably got them from your partner so tell them to do the same.

no i have hermit crabs and they dont need light only sun light thts all

i wouldnt say you have to but if there trying to get sleep then turn it off, my bro had hermit crabs and they pinched him for half an hour!!! he was hurting and his hand was bleeding! so dont earatate them! well maby they'll tend to like you? but take my advise!
