You need to know how to write because you will use that knowledge throughout your entire life. If you go to college, which I'm assuming you see no need for, you will write papers constantly. In a lot of jobs you will have to write letters and reports. Writing is just as important as learning math is. So start studying, and learn it well. A well written letter or report makes the writer look intelligent rather than stupid. It also helps if you learn to speak correctly. People who do not use the parts of speech correctly sound like idiots and have a much harder time in life getting jobs and promotions.

The "why" in your question is redundant.

That's why you need to know how to write as an adult or child or senior citizen: so people can actually understand you!

Do you plan on living in a cave all of your life?

Regardless of your job, you will be getting memos, writing letters, contracts, and even notes to the teachers of your children.

I can't think of a situation where a person wouldn't be able to write anything, unless s/he was not able to attend school at ALL.
