I'm Dutch and I can speak my native language almost as well as English, the language of my adopted country. I often feel my English beats my Dutch. So I am bi-lingual, I think. Many of my fellow-Dutchies would tell you they learnt German, French and perhaps Italian and Spanish at school too though. Yet when I hear their English, and I hear it more often than I'd like, I knwo better than to believe it.
There are people who do really speak more than one language though, and it's amazing if you can express yourself truly in another language. But until you can, you can't say you're bi/tri/quattri-lingual or the like. I don't mean that as criticism to you, I'm simply referring to the loads of wannabe's out there ;o)

I speak spanish, Hebrew, English and I am learning in the university french and Italian :-)
