Okay, what is the area and its approximate uncertainty of a circle of a radius of 2.8 X 10 to the 4 cm? I just dont get the 10 to the power stuff. I can do it when its in decimal form just not when you have to do some thing like this for example...5X10 to the 17. ???

2.8*10^4 is 2.8* 10000 or 28000

area = pi * r^2

so 2.8*10^4 squared is 2.8*2.8*10^4*10^4
which is 7.84*10^8

when two numbers that are equal that are raised to any power get multiplied together, the product is the number raised to the power of the sum of the exponents

ok this is really easy,

2.8 x 10 is 28

2.8 x 10 to the 1 is 28
2.8 x 10 to the 2 is 280
2.8 x 10 to the 3 is 2,800
2.8 x 10 to the 4 is 28,000

Do you see where this is going?
