Please give me some names! For the moment, the only one I found is Michael Fishwick, who works at Bloomsbury and has also published a novel.

Your question has turned up on my screen in the continental U.S. I'll assay to answer that. The English generally have a rich literary tradition. I should think it peculiar the reverse to be the case or less than abundant. So much so, that some erstwhile writers and men of letters have arisen from Ireland as well.

Susan Hill is a publisher who is also a writer, she has a publishing firm called Long Barn Books. Quite a few publishers have written their memoirs. I can think of Tom Maschler, George Weidenfeld, Michael Russell off hand. Also quite a few people have ghost written books. Diane Athill worked for Gollancz but she didn't really write most of her books until she retired. Lots of the big editors have edited anthologies etc.
The only other person I can think of is John Lee who works for Macmillan and has written a couple of military history books.
I'm sure that many publishers have knocked out a book in their time.

There are a few publishers/editors who are also published authors. It is usual in these cases to be published by a different company to the one they work for in an editorial capacity. Some also use nom-de-plumes.
