Rob Mac goes back to school

Team Virgin Mobile Yamaha's boss Rob McElnea went back to school today (Monday 10th July) to open a new £400,000 state-of-the-art engineering centre in the Team's home town of Scunthorpe.

Rob has been invited to cut the ribbon at the new Phoenix Centre, a high tech new facility at Brumby Engineering College in Scunthorpe on Monday lunchtime.

Dr Tom Clark, headteacher at the school, invited Rob to inspire pupils at the school. Dr Clark said: "I am delighted Rob has agreed to open the new centre. Superbike racing relies on using modern technology and engineering techniques to get the most of the bikes. Having Rob here can only be an inspiration to our pupils and shows the type of exciting work available through a career in engineering. As well as the skill of the riders, engineering and design is critical to producing a competitive machine. This kind of exciting, real-world application of engineering is what the school uses to enthuse pupils."

Mr Clark added: "Brumby prides itself on making learning exciting and relevant to the modern world. The new Phoenix Centre will give pupils the opportunity to use the same type of equipment which is used in the workplace. The Phoenix Centre will have some of the best engineering facilities in the region, if not the country."

Rob Mac said: "It was a privilege to open the new building at the College, Scunthorpe is well known for its engineering heritage and it's great that the school is investing in the young people to produce engineers for the future. I think showing the kids the Superbike lets them see that engineering can be interesting and sexy.":-)
