The single most important factor is how well-controlled his diabetes is. Very tight control may not significantly impact the life expectancy. The damage that is done with diabetes is largely based on how often and the duration of elevated glucose levels on the tissues and vessels supplying them.

Depends on the male and whether he has type I or Type II diabetes. It also depends on if he is good at taking his medication, following diet recommendations, and exercises. My Dad has Type II and he will be 83 in a couple of months.
