My friend is having a baby boy due in December and her mom is throwing her a baby shower in December as well. I was starting to think of what kind of clothes I should get for him, as in should I buy him baby clothes for newborns or some that he can grow into? It would be great if someone could tell me how they go about months on baby clothes. Thanks!

Get him clothes for 3-6 months or 6-9 months for him to grow into. I'm sure more people will be getting him newborn clothes which some consider so much cuter.

Baby clothes are (typically) inexpensive. I would imagine you plan to buy one or two outfits? I would buy something that fits now, something for 3-6 months and something for 6-9 months. Keep in mind the time of year and the age of the baby so that you may want to buy long sleeves vs. short etc. I just had a baby he is now 3 months old and It was really nice that folks bought clothes for newborn through 12 months. In addition it was extremely nice to get other needed items. My friend who coordinated my shower asked all my guest to bring a package of diapers of any size. That helped me so much that I have still not had to buy any diaper! So maybe think about those types of gifts too.

When I buy clothing for a baby shower I buy 1 outfit in each sizing group of 0-3, 3-6, and 6-9m. If the child is due in the fall all have long sleeves and are warm. If the child is born middle of winter I would do 2 with long sleeves and one with short sleeves. If born in spring I would do one with long sleeves and 2 with short. Some places have the 6 piece mix'n match sets that come both long and short sleeve, pants and shorts, hats and socks. I would find out if she is signed up somewhere on a baby registry and buy from that list first. Other things to think about are onesies, socks, bibs, blankets.. ect. These can be bought in different sizes and work all year round.

Buy clothes he can grow into, 3-6 month or 6-9 month, but make sure you buy clothes in the proper season. I was given a lot of 6-9 month winter clothes when my guy is 8 months over summer, and he cant wear any of the clothes cuz its just too hot!

If you plan on buying more then one outfit, it may be nice to include a 0-3month outfit. For me, I got a lot of older clothes and no newborn clothes and my gtuy was small and couldnt fit into any of his baby shower presents for a long time...and I couldnt afford to buy him many newborn outfits so I had to do laundry like every day inorder for him to stay in clean clothes.
Just a thought, hope I've helped

Beautiful baby blankets are very nice gifts to receive for winter babies. If she hasn't gone shopping and does not have anything then I would buy her nice little warm onesies that are size 0 or newborn. Babies grow so fast so I would also invest in some clothes for 3 to 4months. Sometimes you want to look at the weight also on the clothes. She could have a really big baby who would wear a size bigger even as a newborn. Good luck

ok i think that it is best to buy bigger clothes for the baby to grow into.everyone buys all the cute little newborn clothes!if you do buy small clothes newborns or 0-3 is what you would get in the winter clothes it depends on the brand which way the size will be written...depending on where you live the baby should be in winter clothes up to the size 3-6 months.in the 6-9 i would buy summer clothes...also as a mother of 2 diapers are a great gift for baby showers..in these also buy size 2 cause they will get all the smaller ones from so many people!!good luck and congrats to your friend!

Both of my sons were large at birth, and as a result, very few of their newborn outfits that I received at my shower or purchased myself fit! They didn't even wear newborn diapers...we started out in size 1. :) What you need to remember is that babies grow incredibly fast during their first year. My boys (and everyone I know who has kids) always wore a size larger than their age. For example, if the boy is 3 months old, he won't be wearing the 0 - 3 months size, he'll probably be in the 3 - 6 months size. At one year old, he'll be wearing 18 months, etc. It also has to do with the manufacturer of the clothes. I've noticed out of all the clothes we have now (or had for them as infants) Target's house brand (Circo) fit the best. When they were 9 months old, for example, they actually wore size 9 months in Circo clothing.

I'd definitely skip buying newborn stuff. Everyone gets a TON of it, and I really don't know who dresses their newborn up on a daily basis in cute little outfits. Most women realize that comfort and ease of changing is far more important than having something cutesy. :) I'm guessing your friend will get a ton of t-shirts and onesies too. Pretty pointless since the baby will be born in December. :) Unless she dresses her baby in layers (which most pediatricians don't recommend) she'll have no use for them.

If *I* were in your shoes, I'd get a really cute summer outfit for the boy in a size 6 - 9 months.

Start buying from over 3 months have a range of warm and cool weather. You just need a basic assortment of newborn. Every child will be different.

I was expecting to have a baby in the normal range 6-9 lbs, but she ended up being almost 10 lbs. We never got a chance to use much of the newborn clothes or diapers. If you do get clothes, or anything else, be sure to keep the reciepts so you can exchange or refund. I have ended up inheriting baby clothes from a cousin who went crazy with her little one.

An execellent idea would be if possible getting her something that is newborn (like a gown) something that is 0-3 months and something that is 3-6 months so that way the baby has something during the first 6 months that he can grow into. At wal-mart a 2 pack of gowns is like $6 and sleepers or onesies can be purchased for 3-6 & 6-9 month for like $6 so total you would be spending less than $20!

I suggest buying 0-3 months or 3-6 months. Babies grow out of newborn clothing quickly if they even ever fit in it (my daughter didn't) Usually they get alot of 0-3 months at showers so you may want to go ahead and get 3-6 months. But just figure in the seasons, I got alot of clothes my daughter could never wear because of the season. Plus get a gift receipt or save the receipt so she can take them back if need be.
