Splits require flexibility, but are a the core a power move. If you want splits to look good you need to be able to jump level to an observer's shoulders or better several times in a row. This requires strength training --running hills, sprints, etc. My favourite exercise is to jump and catch my nose between my heels. You will have a nice split form if you simply extend your legs from this position. Your body is rotated 10-15 degrees above horizontal such that you legs will be slightly higher than your butt at full extension. Your legs should be turned out and toes in point. Ideally your takeoff and landing are in 1rst position. There should be a prep and a polished finish, but I'll leave that up to you. A typical 16 count sequence for splits is pose (4) prep(5,6), one split (7)to get the crowd's attention, another prep (8,9) folowed by 5 more splits (10-14), pose (15,16).

Splits- *you have to work at being flexible to get these right*. Stand up with your feet shoulder width apart and your feet and knees turned outward. Slowly slide down and put your hands on the floor. Make sure knees still face the ceiling! When you have gone as far down as you can go comfortably, hold for 2 minutes, and repeat daily. You will have center splits in 2-5 weeks.

Cartwheel- *you have to try both sides because people learn best using their 'good' side*. Stand with your feet apart, one arm 90 degrees over your head and the other 45 degrees (horizontal)to the side of your body. Extend and point one leg (the side where the arm is horizontal) and do a cartwhee in 4 motions first hand, second hand, first leg over, second leg over and land. Make sure you point your toes and stretch your legs (no bent knees!).

Sorry that the message is so long and it might be hard for you to learn how to do a cartwheel by reading.

Good Luck!

I don't know how much do you know already. I'll assume you can do some sort of cartwheel, but you want to make it look good. To make it look good, you need to start it going forward not sideways. But you kick your legs through the side, not over your head. Let the legs split apart as you kick them over. If you keep them together you'll get much more momentum than you want, and that would be something close to a roundoff.
