Every living thing is dead. No one is alive but the lady, no bugs, nothing is living. who rang the bell?

The Avon lady. You said everything around her is dead, not every thing in the world was. If everything else in the world is dead, then it was a blowing branch from the dead tree next to the door. But I really like the reaper idea.
