Most ppl have a telling gesture or something that gives them away. Like some blink or show wisdom teeth when they are lying. Or the all too obvious ones is not making eye contact or stumbling around with their words instead of giving direct answers. But I'm so good at it now that my own parents don't think I can lie and that is the biggest lie of all.

Usaully, if the person cannot look me in the eyes, it is a good sign that they are hiding something. Body language tells alot about a person!

Watch their eyes, if they look up they are searching for an answer, if they look down they are trying to remember what they planned to say, if they look right at you they are likely telling the truth.

Lots of people won't look you in the eyes. Alot of times they will not argue with you, they will just get mad and walk away.

Use instincts, watch their demeanor and wait about a day or two and see if they remember what they told you.
