I'm looking to replace the battery on my IBM ThinkPad 240 and from what I can tell, it's offered in 3400 mAh, compared to the 1400 mAh that came with it. I guess I have a few questions...

1. What does "mAh" mean?

2. What will the higher number translate to in terms of how long I can run my computer? Will it run (3400/1400) times longer than it did using the 1400 mAh battery when it was brand new?

3. Is it even worth spending about $50 to replace the battery on a laptop as old as this?

1. mAh stands for Milliamp Hour, a technical term for how much power a particular battery will hold.

2. The higher the number, the more longevity.

3. I don't think it's worth it if you use it in an office/home most of the time, but if you travel where there's no accessible plug, it's worth it.

If you have the usual laptop with a removable battery that is replaceable by the consumer, then you should be able to safely remove the battery but don't open the battery casing itself. It will be obvious to you if you do that- you would be breaking the plastic casing and tearing it apart.

It is the correct charge rate as specified by the battery manufacturer and should only be replaced by a battery of the same mAh rating otherwise the battery can over heat and

I saw a brand new Compaq laptop in the Best Buy ad for $299 this week. I'd just buy the new computer, it will be tons better than your old laptop. Any OS under Windows 2000 (Me, 98, 95), are no longer supported by Microsoft, therefore insecure.

I think it means milli-amps per hour(?) The battery kicks out so many milli-amperes per hour. The new one appears to be about 2-1/2 times longer-lasting than the old one. (I could be wrong, but that's how it looks to me.)

mAh stands for milliamp hour.

It should basically run on battery power for almost twice the time.

Im not familar with your laptop, but if you dont use it powered on battery much, I would say no.
