The Moons' day is the same length as it's year. Therefore the same side of the Moon always faces the Sun. The opposite side is called the dark side because it never faces the Sun.

Hi there. A little side info on the Dark Side ! There seems to be a little confusion. The dark side of the moon is the opposite side of the lit side. (already stated) The moon does rotate as it revolves (stated) so the same side does NOT face the same direction all the time. So through out the month and for simplicity, we will have a FACE side and a BACK side. Face will be what faces us all the time, back will be the opposite side. We will also have a lit side and a dark side. The abberation of the rotation to 59 percent we will leave out and keep it simple.
FULL MOON - Face side towards earth is lit side so back side is dark side.
LAST QUARTER - Face side is half lit (left ) and half dark side but it is the whole face side. Back side is also half lit and half dark.
NEW MOON - Face side is all dark side and back side is now lit.
FIRST QUARTER - Face side is half lit (right) and half dark, as well as the back side is half lit and half dark

The moon is a satellite of this planet that has gravitational or tidal locking, meaning that the same side of the orb is always facing the body around which it orbits. The earth is not similarly locked into the rotation around the sun, as it rotates daily. Regardless of how much of the moon you can see, depending on the phase, you are always looking at the same side.
Since we can't see it, we refer to it as the dark side, but the sun does shine on it when that side faces the sun.

The dark side of the moon is the side furthest from the sun.
It might be in someones record collection.
It's also a French joke that the anglosaxons don't get, or maybe take seriously.
The far side of the moon is the side we never see. Some times it's dark, sometimes it's light. sometimes it's partly light and partly dark

There is no dark side of the moon - it's all dark really. Sorry, had to get a Pink Floyd lyric in there!

The other side, duh.
No side is truly 'dark' because the sun will shine on it sooner or later. It is called dark because we don't get to see it, from Earth, owing to the moon rotating so the same side always faces us.

gd question. the "dark side of the moon" is actually not a correct term for it even though its the common term.
the correct term is the "far side of the moon".
this is because the moon is in a captured orbit which means that we only ever see roughly half of the moon - the same half faces us all the time.
due to lunar librations which i guess are when the moon shakes slightly - we get to see 59% of the moon.
hope this answers your question
