The key for me is the ability to laugh at oneself, particularly when mistakes are made, or when seen in a less than flattering situation, such as slipping on a banana peel.
A confident person would laugh merrily; an arrogant one would sue the ape who dropped the peel.

A confident person realizes that he may fail, or might be wrong, but believes in himself enough to try anyways. He doesn't let small defeats get him down. This is the guy who walks up to a girl he likes, looks her in the eye, and asks if she'd like to join him for dinner.
An arrogant person doesn't accept the reality that he may fail or may be wrong, and when faced with the possibility of failure, will usually try to blame someone/something else. Because this person is actually pretty insecure underneath, a defeat could shatter his world. This is the guy who walks up to a girl he likes, and asks her if she'd like to join him for breakfast the next morning. If he gets declined (not unlikely), he's liable to walk away, muttering "That ***** doesn't know what she's missing" under his breath.

Arrogance is boasting about oneself, confidence is having the self esteem to do things without the boasting! An arrogant person is so up him/herself, a confident person isn,t! I have always detested arrogant people.

Arrogance is an attitude which is negative and overbearing. Confidence is quite, calm and positive, responding to others rather that negating them.

arrogance is basically when you are being smug, self-conceited and rubbing your behaviour in other people's faces deliberately and in a disrespectful way, bragging about it in an attempt to annoy the other person
confidence is when you are demonstrating your worth and by being bold but in not in an in-yer-face way which demeans others, thus in not giving them the impression that you are being cocky and conceited
