Makes me worry in a way - they probably know about every topic I'm interested in - they know most of the books I bought in the last five years - they simply know too much about me! They destroy other bookstores - and I was working as a bookseller during my university years. And as I have heard only recently they don't treat their employees that well!
On the other hand... my books are delivered to my door + I live in central Europe and English/American books + DVDs (before Amazon) were ridiculously expensive and it took the booksellers weeks to get them + Amazon.marketplace: I can order nearly every book that has been printed in the last 50 years - no second-hand bookshop can compete with that, etc., etc., etc.
Résumé: I'm an egoist when it comes to BOOKS! I'm all for Amazon! For me Amazon is a source of joy and.... sucks the money of my pockets!!!!!!
What would I do if Amazon employees would go on strike? Suffer and hope they'll get better conditions as soon as possible!!!!!! Very good conditions, I hope - they deserve it - they do a great job!

Except for the "used" book sales Amazon has tacked onto most book pages, I'm very pleased with what they have to offer. They have sold a lot of books and eBooks for me, so I can't complain about the exposure. Having a worldwide audience only a few clicks away is a huge asset for any author--that much I can attest to from experience. Good question, by the way.

Funny, I was in a focus group that they asked about Amazon when they were about to launch and they asked the same question. At the time ecommerce was very new and we were all skeptical that the model would work. We were wrong, obviously.

I see amazon as a great resource for hard to find material, but I try to support my local book shop as much as possible.

I like Amazon, I shop there sometimes. Not much, just a couple of times a year maybe. Good feelings because I remember all the books I read and can read once I get them.. plus I order DVD's sometimes.

It's a good site to get used books from, but on the whole buying new books end up being cheaper at a bookstore.

It works for me. I ordered some CDs off of them a couple weeks ago, and everything came through without a hitch.

I think its a very good web site.. I have ordered many of things from CD, to books to furniture from there and they always come in time and in great condition.

They know a great deal about me. More than I like, sometimes.

Often not the cheapest but often the most reliable.

Good for gift tokens.
