I would have to say Federer because for the last 3 years, he has defeated everyone who stands in his way and has beat the other top players consistently (even though there isn't too many) whereas Schumacher also has the best car and Woods has even less quality competition to beat with the possible exceptions of Singh, Mickelson and Els. But take nothing away from any of them, they are all up there with some of the major sporting greats.

Michael Schumacher is not the best due to previous record for unporting behaviour and previous complaints for cheating, which were upheld.
Lance Armstrong deserves a shout for this also. What an athlete. But I don't think even he compares to Tiger or the Fed-Express.
Very difficult to judge. All you can compare is what they have won in terms of Majors etc. Which would put Tiger as the best, But Federer is 6years younger and only what 3 behind Tiger for Major wins?
So for me it would have to be Federer as the greatest sportsman on the planet at the moment.

Tiger is the best relative to his competition, if you consider golf a sport (as opposed to a game).
Federer is second, given his recent dominance of the men's circuit. But he was beaten twice last year by Nadal, and his grand slam accomplishments while damn impressive, aren't unprecedented. He's just the best men's player out there right now. But we saw the same kind of dominance from Sampras, from McEnroe and from Borg in the 1970s.
Tiger was sooooo far ahead of his closest competitor a few years ago, it was sick. He was replaying the Jim Brown era of the NFL on a golf course. Now other golfers have improved and Tiger took a year off to devote attention to the wifey, but he's back now and rolling. I don't think anyone else compares in that regard.

Schumacher is great of course, but he benefits from a better vehicle. Woods' clubs are actually a disadvantage to him, and I'm not sure about Federer. It's close, but I'm going to have to go with Tiger for now because Rafael Nadal seems to have Federer's number, especially on clay. In his prime (2000, right now), Tiger can beat anyone.

Schumacher's being put down a lot on this question but he's been consistently THE best driver for over a decade now, even when he didn't have the best car (it could probably be argued he doesn't have the best car now) and that's never been debated by any intelligent person. Woods and Federer on the other hand have both had spells, brief as they may be, of falability.

michael schumacher shouldn't be on the list, he's a stooge. I live in Switzerland, he lives here because he doesn't have to pay income tax because there are no speedways here so he's technically not working here. He just got busted for paying his gardener 7 francs an hour (thats about 5 US dollars per hour). He makes 150 million a year!!!!
Roger Federer for sure, Golf isn't a sport, its a game.

it has to be tiger, federer could and might well become the best tennis player of all time my opinion is he will.schumacher is a win at all cost (sportsman) superb in the limited field he is in.some would argue he has the best car all the time but he did win the world title in a benetton when williams was best.not gracious at all he took hill off to win the title and his past is blotted in a lot of ways but im sure everyone will acknowledge he's been head and shoulders over the rest for a decade.
tiger is superb on every level a generous sportsman even in defeat.he may or not reach jacks major haul but not to tarnish jacks achievement they were weaker fields in those times.i for one am really looking forward to seeing him in the world matchplay this week

At the moment Woods and Federer are head and shoulders above their peers. Schuey is statistically the most succesful driver of all time. But he'll never be revered in the same way as Ascari, Fangio, Stewart, Senna etc........

Don't forget Valentino Rossi, arguably the greatest motorcycle racer ever, makes Formula 1 look like the over-rated go-karts they are. As for tennis and golf, they don't even compare. There is no more boring "sport" than golf, although tennis comes close.
