I think he sucks and I can't stand his voice. He wasn't even than great of a songwriter. I can think of 1,000 rappers better than he.

Let me guess, You havent liked rap all your life,its new to you; your young, and have never set foot in the bronx.
Sorry, i was grumpy this morning. Anyhow, i think hes great and his stories are too. I belive, and im no rap historian, that his music was the first to come out with such a cohesive story. Like one day this and this happened, end day. His stories were funny as well. If you dont like him, it might be more for his voice and stylistic choices rather then his fame. He was a pioneer of rap, i guess thats the answer.
As for your breif bronx experience, i hope you enjoyed yankee staduim and that the yankees won the weekend and the game you attended was a fluke. =>

All rappers are over rated.. Some may be good poets, but to call themselves singers or musicians is preposterous!!!
