ok subtract 200 from 1200 then add 300 you will get 1300 then multiply 1300 by .75 take the sum of that wich is 975 so adding 975 plus 1300 to get 2275 and to check you will do the oppisit of that 2275 minus 975 is 1300 minus 300 is 1000 plus 200= 1200

Final money: 1200

To set the equation up, use parenthesis for each question.
Starting money = (((((1200 - 200)*2)+300)*2)*2)
= ((((1000*2)+300)*2)*2)
= (((2000+300)*2)*2)
= ((2300*2)*2)
= 4600 * 2
= $9800

check:
9800 / 2 (first question = 4600 /2 (second question) =
2300 - 300 (third question) = 2000 /2 (fourth question) =
1000 + 200 (last question = 1200

any idea how you'd do it? can u make use of the hint??

final amount = 1200
before gaining 200 on 5th qn = 1000
before losing half on 4th qn -> 2000
before losing 300 on 3st qn -> 2300
before losing half on 2rd qn -> 4600
before losing half on 1st qn -> 9200 = original amount

it can be solved directly as:

let x be the original amount; then

after first, left = x/2
after 2nd, left = x/4
after 3rd, left = x/4-300
after 4th, left = 1/2(x/4-300)
after 5th, left = (x/8-150+200)=1200 or x/8 = 1150 or x=9200
