Why do the majority of people who go to the Ivy League become democrats, I thought these schools would make them more intelligent. I just think that it is strange that the so called elite intelligensia are left leaning.

studies show a direct correlation between education and political agenda. sadly for you, the correlation is the more educated you are the more likely you are a democrat. where do you go to school? anyway, there are idiots and uneducated in both parties. the way you vote just depends on why youre an idiot. It is true though, i saw a study showing the most educated states in the country voted democrat in the last election. i wish i could find it but i cant.

Because they encourage not only knowledge but free thinking. Our public schools only teach basic survival skills at best. I'd like to say that I dont blame the teachers, they are doing the best they can do with what they have. They are under paid, under staffed, and under supplied. This country puts no value on education anymore. The tax payers ***** every time the schools need anything. Its the tax payers that dictate how good or bad our schools are based on how much theyre willing to pay in taxes. People need to wake up before the rich have the only education worth anything to get all the goods job or careers. Education is the one thing that leveled the playing field between rich and poor in this country for the past 30 years or so. Now, that trend is reversing. The poor are getting a substandard education while the rich get the very best. The choice is ours. And no, I'm not a teacher, just a concerned citizen.

If you're talking about tradition, it has less to do with intelligence than it does social conditioning. All too often, American liberalism is viewed only through the 20th Century lens of the Civil Rights movement. In reality, it's roots go back to the days of Thomas Jefferson and the duties of the "American Nobility."

Remeber that Jefferson's time was greatly influenced by the Age of Enlightenment. In Europe and America, it was becoming fashionable for the nobility to display a deep social conscience. Those born with superior means, they reasoned, had a social responsibility to help those less fortunate.

Universities like Harvard and Yale, and Jefferson's own University of Virginia were originally created to educate the "best and the brightest," and carried this philosophy into their teachings. The tradition of the "compassionate aristocracy" carries on with families like the Kennedys today.

Liberal thought is prevalent in these institutions because it is considered part of their defining purpose.

A lot of conservatives push the "God" agenda or the "Christian Family Values" thing or Intelligent Design vs. Evolution. I think smarter people realize that a lot of Repub/Conservative ideals are very old-fashioned and close-minded, therefore smarter and more enlightened people would be Democrats. Democrats like freedom and patriotism and questioning things. Cons generally like the status quo, and want things to stay the same and don't want anyone to have rights but the wealthy and white, Christian and straight.

I would love to see some Repubilcans that are open-minded. All we hear about are the other kind. Anyone out there?

My theory is that some form of satanism is practiced in the schools. Look at the Skull and Bones Club at Yale where everyone is sworn to secrecy.

Maybe intelligence is something that you cannot fully grasp.

P.S. Some could say that Yale & Harvard failed miserably on creating an intelligent and articulate George W. Bush.

Because the more educated people get, they tend to support views that are better for everybody overall. Not just for those that "have" or for those of us that can do on our own. But 4 everybody, event hose who "cant" or those who need some help.

Because they are educated.

It is the same reason every single Political Science teacher I have ever had is also liberal - because they have a Masters knowing what works for this country.

They just give them big egos. They teach them that they are smarter than the rest of us proles and they should be in power to run our lives. For our own good, of course, since they are so much smarter and better than us.
