I am not currently behind on any bills because I have taken cash advances on Credit Cards hoping things would improve but now I see there is no end in sight.

Dont go bankrupt, it is not that critical by the looks of things, re-organise the debts on the cards and you can in fact do this with the card firms hemselves, they will help you if you contact them and explain the situation (which they already know anyway as you are behind).

You can reduce your monthly payments but still pay monthly payments to them. Get a debt counsellor, not your attorney, to help you work out where the main problems are and how to address them. They can also talk to the card companies for you as well. You dont need to go bankrupt at all.

You aren't eligible to EVEN file until you have completed an approved financial education class approved by the Trustee. You don't need an atty - call the Trustee's office and get a list of approved classes and take it now. During the course or after successful completion, then you will have a better idea which way to go.

You don't need an atty - file pro se. Paperwork is intimidating but very straightforward.

Stop the cash advances on credit cards and stop using one card to pay another.

Cut back on living expenses until cash flow improves. You're not ready for bankruptcy, yet.

Now is a good time. Take action (contact an attorney) before you get in any deeper.

Good luck.
