Did you know there is enough venom in a crane fly to kill you? Only it wont coz they aint got the strength to bite you.

Anyway onto the answer...... they just come out at this time of year thats all!

a daddy long legs in the U S is a type of spider with a very small round body and very long 8 legs. In the UK, Australia, and Canada crane flies are referred to as daddy long legs. So what you may have seen might have been a crane fly and it might have been a spider. The crane fly has an elongated body, six legs, and wings. It looks like a giant mosquito.

This is the time of year when they emerge from the early form when the eggs were laid. They will mate and lay more eggs and usually in lawns which they seem to prefer. The can do considerable damage to lawns because the grubs eat away at the grass roots.

There were loads last year at this time too, I think it is the heat that makes them breed more!! I hate them, my dogs love to catch them and eat them!! lol

Well it must be breeding season and are these insects thick, you can prod them a few times and they don't move so you just squash them
